Have you ever heard the silly phrase "The only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time?" No, I'm not advocating for the killing and consumption of these unique creatures. Instead, I'm comparing an elephant to your goals.
If your goals are that elephant, they can look huge and daunting, an endeavor too big to undertake. But, if you slow down and take one action at a time, you can change your perspective of it all.
One of my priorities for 2024 is to boldly slow down so I advance my goals faster. I've been wanting and wishing but not quite getting there. So, I'm going to take my foot off the gas and address some skills, beliefs, and behaviors.
Skills - I believe that any good goal will require a new skill. It's not much of a goal if you don't challenge yourself beyond your current knowledge level, right? I've been spending too much time finding a work-around to managing my website. My goal is to learn the program so I can do the work myself.
Beliefs - Goals are meant to improve us in some way. What we believe about our abilities will impact the work we do to make the changes. For me, I want to change my belief about how I look and sound on video so I confidently get my message out to a broader audience.
Behaviors - Our beliefs drive our behaviors. These behaviors or habits need to change as our goals change. In order for me to slow down, work smarter, and get to my goals faster, I have to change how I move through my day. I need to use my time more wisely and that's going to require a new routine.
Learning new skills, changing my beliefs, and altering my behaviors will take time and energy, practice and discipline. It's going to require one step at a time, one bite at a time.
