As we enter the final 4 months of 2023, I want to share 4 things I’m going to do right now to finish the year strong.
Acknowledge and adapt my plan for 2023.
Like many of you, back in January I prepared a plan for the year. Some people set goals, I identified priorities and a plan to address each. Now is a great time to acknowledge what I accomplished and then adapt the plan to meet me where I am now. Just because the year is 2/3 over and I have much more to do doesn’t mean my plan is a loss. It means I need to adapt to the obstacles and opportunities that have been presented to me over the last 8 months.
Manage consumption for the sake of creativity.
Consumption relates to what I take in through my eyes and ears as much as what I take in through my mouth. My creativity can easily be derailed by bad energy, whether it’s from listening to those around me or from what I read while scrolling Instagram. I’m also aware of how the foods I eat and the beverages I drink affect my body. I know that when I eat better and limit alcohol, I feel better and I’m more creative the next day. It’s here that new habits and ways to track them will help with accountability, adherence, and success.
Prepare for the “holidaze”.
I’m not talking about getting my Christmas shopping done in September. I’m talking about preparing for the impact of 2 major holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) on my time and on my caloric intake. The most important thing I can do each day is be prepared. I need to be realistic about what I can accomplish in the amount of time I will have available to me. I need to plan my meals the day before to properly nourish my body. I refuse to lose control for a few months and then clean up the mess on January 1st.
Use my senses for simple self-care.
Finally, the hectic nature of the upcoming months will require a stronger focus on being present and taking time for self-care. I created a nice visual to remind myself of the simple ways to implement a few moments of self-care by thinking about it through the lens of my senses. For example, maybe the best thing for me at that moment would be some earplugs to block the annoying sounds around me or maybe it’s a smooth rock to caress to take my mind off the pain in my shoulder.
