There are several definitions for the word BOLD but the one that speaks to me is someone who goes “beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action” and is imaginative. This is exactly why BOLD is my word for 2024.
Are you familiar with the One Word concept? Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page wrote a book in 2013 to help people focus on a word instead of New Year’s resolutions. I fell instantly in love with this concept and have had a word every year since. I weave it throughout the priorities I set for my year and the monthly goals I create to address them.
Here are a few ways I intend to be BOLD in 2024. Maybe some of these will resonate with you?
I am going to step into the role as the #1 expert of what’s best for my body!
In 2023 menopause wreaked havoc on my body and mind. I was confused and vulnerable and fell victim to misinformation about how to exercise and eat. In 2024, I’m putting myself back in charge of my health. I plan to change up doctors to ones who will hear what I have to say and are up-to-date on the science. I plan to be stronger in body and mind thanks to great resources like the Feisty Menopause. And, I plan to invest more time in rest and recovery.
How will you boldly advocate for your physical and mental health in 2024?
I am going to slow down so I move faster!
In 2023 I tried to do things my way when it came to growing my coaching business and balancing it with my full-time job. While I didn’t achieve my goals I did learn a lot of new ways to can make my dreams a reality. You remember the scene in Top Gun where Maverick puts on the brakes so the enemy flies right by, putting him in control? Yep, that’ll be me. In 2024, I’m going to put on the brakes, take time to learn the techniques that have worked for others, and do the hard work.
What would it look like if you boldly took control of your career or your life’s purpose?
I am going to fall in love with fear!
In 2023, a lot of my plans didn’t come to fruition because I was too scared to follow through with them. More times than I care to admit, I found myself paralyzed by fear and changing my well thought out plans to accommodate it. In 2024, I’m going to start a red-hot romance with fear! I have new skills to learn. I have stories to tell. I have reasons to be seen and visible. I am going to embrace the fear and self-doubt and see it as a motivator, not a deterrent. I can’t wait to share the lessons I learn from this new mindset.
What could you boldly accomplish if you were motivated instead of stopped by fear?
I found a quote that says, “Boldness isn’t something you are born with; you either choose it or you don’t.” Choose to be bold in 2024, my friends!
